a cupboard makeover.....and a door

I know it's been some time since I've posted.....but we've been quite busy trying to get our home put back together after the big hail storm we had here in July. To tell you the truth, the only thing that's been done so far is the roof....which I am thankful for as we've been getting lots of rain lately. But, I'm beyond ready to have windows again....boarded up windows and thrashed siding gets old after 3 months.

Okay....enough about that....look what else I've been up to....

I've been painting....a lot. Do you remember when I tried Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint for the first time? Well, that wasn't quite the look I was going for...so I tried again last week....and I'm liking this much better. I decided I wanted this old cupboard I've had forever to look more like a french cupboard.....so I used MMSMP in Shutter Gray to try to make this happen. The difference this time is I used a bonding agent to help the paint adhere better....and it worked wonderfully. After painting just one coat of paint I waxed it with clear wax followed by dark antiquing wax and viola... a french inspired cupboard.

You'll have to forgive the dark shadowy photos as these were taken in my basement and it's a dark and dreary day outside. I love how it turned out. The photos make the paint color look lighter than it actually is, the color is a deeper blue/gray than the photos show....the color reminds me of a battleship.

A little close-up of the paint finish.

Here's the other painting I've been doing.....I've decided to paint all the interior doors in our home Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore. I'll be touching up our trim but keeping those white as I really like how the door pops off the white walls and trim.

What have you guys been up to this summer?

  6. They are both beautiful. But I love that calm greige of the door. It is very similar to MS Sharkey Grey that we used on our kitchen, bath and hallway oak cabinets recently.
