Whenever my hubby see's me daydreaming.......he knows a new project is on the horizon....
and here it is.....a new project to add to our never ending list of home improvements.....
a pea gravel driveway and porch.
I have loved pea gravel ever since we visited Europe 8 years ago. I love the sound that it makes under foot....I love the way that it feels in your hand....and I of course love how it looks.

I've been dreaming about doing this for some time now.....and while I'll have to wait a little longer, I'm excited at the prospect of having a touch of european charm on our property.

Love it too - but be warned - at least in Ohio - the weeds will drive you absolutely insane.

I'd take anything over my cracked concrete driveway, but it's too expensive to replace and our area only permits hard topped driveways :( I love it's sounds, too!

I've never known it as pea gravel before. I like that name. We have a couple of areas in our garden that is gravelled and I love it. It's a break from hard pavers.

ReplyDeleteHi Andrea! Hope your week is going great! I grew up down in Miami with a pea gravel driveway, and I loved it. It was for the people who couldn't afford a concrete driveway. We also had terrazzo floors, which are floors with bits of stone in them. They were also the less expensive flooring back then, but now it's an upscale thing to put in, and they have quite extravagant designs.

I know what you mean, there is something about them! I had always dreamt of a gravel drive, and when we moved home two years ago, i was thrilled to find it had a gravel carriage drive! You do need to keep it topped up though else the weeds start to encroach (although easily pulled up!)and certainly not a good enough reason not to have one - enjoy!!!!

ReplyDeleteI'm a real fan of pea gravel as well! I love little paths made of it and keep wanting to use it outside our basement sliders, making a little patio just off the deck. I decided one day that I'd pick up a few bags and bring them home to get the project started - are you kidding? Those little bags weigh a ton! I decided to leave the bags where they were and save up to have the entire load delivered. Then I can make a million wheelbarrow trips to the backyard LOL! Hope you get your's done! Hugs,Leena

When I first saw this post I just had to laugh. You see I've been spending some time on Pintrest today looking for inspiration on just this subject. I currently have pea gravel paths in my flower garden which I love, love, love. The dog loves it too! I'm pretty sure this will be my next project once the weather isn't so hot!

ReplyDeleteI have seen this used in gardens. I LOVE the idea.We don't have a patio of any kind right now.I have been doing some research on this and may do that eventually too.I love the look.And it is much cheaper than most methods.
