Whenever my hubby see's me daydreaming.......he knows a new project is on the horizon....
and here it is.....a new project to add to our never ending list of home improvements.....
a pea gravel driveway and porch.
I have loved pea gravel ever since we visited Europe 8 years ago. I love the sound that it makes under foot....I love the way that it feels in your hand....and I of course love how it looks.

I've been dreaming about doing this for some time now.....and while I'll have to wait a little longer, I'm excited at the prospect of having a touch of european charm on our property.

Love it too - but be warned - at least in Ohio - the weeds will drive you absolutely insane.
ReplyDeleteJust sayin.
I'd take anything over my cracked concrete driveway, but it's too expensive to replace and our area only permits hard topped driveways :( I love it's sounds, too!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds and looks lovely Andrea!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it will be lovely!
Can't wait to see yours!
Have a great week!
Deborah xoxo
I can't wait to see what you do with the pea gravel. I'm sure it will be amazing when you are done. Love your inspiration photos.

Je comprends votre ressenti... J'aime les repas pris à l'extérieur à l'ombre de beaux arbres... et comme vous le dîtes si bien avec le crissement des graviers qui roulent sous nos pas...
ReplyDeleteGros bisous.
OOh...I like that. Very much, very much.
ReplyDeleteHi Andrea~ I have pea gravel in my backyard as part of my patio area. I love it and I love the look of it. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.

I've never known it as pea gravel before. I like that name. We have a couple of areas in our garden that is gravelled and I love it. It's a break from hard pavers.
ReplyDeleteI love pea gravel! I should put some in my new garden, but then I think it's difficult to stay if you have babies running...
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day
Silvia
Love the gravel! Always wanted it too, just not sure if you have to do any snow shoveling.....
ReplyDeleteHi Andrea! Hope your week is going great! I grew up down in Miami with a pea gravel driveway, and I loved it. It was for the people who couldn't afford a concrete driveway. We also had terrazzo floors, which are floors with bits of stone in them. They were also the less expensive flooring back then, but now it's an upscale thing to put in, and they have quite extravagant designs.
ReplyDeletePea gravel is charming, rather rustic, and just looks fabulous. I know you'll love it!
Hugs,
Becky
I like it too.....so nice !!...love Ria...xxx..
ReplyDeleteGood to see you posting
ReplyDeleteI'm a pea gravel fan as well. It crunches under foot like well baked cookies.

ReplyDeleteI hope your able to get your pea gravel soon, I would love to see how it turns out!
Have a lovely day.
Sincerely,
Melinda
Love the photos...but I can only imagine what YOUR ideas will be like. :)
ReplyDeleteI've always loved pea gravel and how it transforms an ordinary setting into something fabulous. It works with every style, too, which I love.
New projects are always exciting...for me, it's like opening a new gift.
Looking forward to seeing you work your magic--again! :)
Hope you're enjoying your summer, Andrea. xo
I know what you mean, there is something about them! I had always dreamt of a gravel drive, and when we moved home two years ago, i was thrilled to find it had a gravel carriage drive! You do need to keep it topped up though else the weeds start to encroach (although easily pulled up!)and certainly not a good enough reason not to have one - enjoy!!!!
ReplyDeleteI like the pea gravel too and I have hopes of using it here someday too!
ReplyDeleteI'm a real fan of pea gravel as well! I love little paths made of it and keep wanting to use it outside our basement sliders, making a little patio just off the deck. I decided one day that I'd pick up a few bags and bring them home to get the project started - are you kidding? Those little bags weigh a ton! I decided to leave the bags where they were and save up to have the entire load delivered. Then I can make a million wheelbarrow trips to the backyard LOL! Hope you get your's done! Hugs,Leena
ReplyDeleteI love the bistro set in the last picture!
ReplyDeleteDo you mean that gravel is something typically European? I've never thought of it that way.
ReplyDeleteGoedele
When I first saw this post I just had to laugh. You see I've been spending some time on Pintrest today looking for inspiration on just this subject. I currently have pea gravel paths in my flower garden which I love, love, love. The dog loves it too! I'm pretty sure this will be my next project once the weather isn't so hot!
ReplyDeleteHi Andrea: I really love pea gravel and have it in our garden. The trees drop leaves on it, but it is not too bad to rake up if you use a tiny plastic rake..Your's will be beautiful..Happy Wednesday..Judy
ReplyDeleteThat is going to look fabulous in your yard, Andrea!! I'm jealous! lol! The husband won't have anything to do with pea gravel. Says it "shifts around too much". Whateverrrrr.....! lol! But I truly do love the look, feel, and sound, too! Have fun with your project! We're all waiting for the big reveal! :)

I have thought the sweet pebbles would landscape nicely around raised beds... but I LOVE your idea!
ReplyDelete...I hope you get your gravel drive soon:-) I got mine last year and LOVE my tyres crunching up it at the end of a long day... weeding has been prolific with the constant deluge of rain in UK this summer! I'm dreaming of a porch, with nice old chairs where I'll watch the sun go down with a chilled glass of wine:-)x
ReplyDeleteHello from your newest follower! I love your pea gravel idea. I've been wanting to make paths with that in my garden with a white picket fence. Of course, I still need to put up the white picket fence! (But first thing's first!)
ReplyDeleteI've been following for awhile (found you in a magazine -- Romantic Homes maybe?) but now that I have a blog I can do a better job at keeping up! If you get a chance, stop by and say hello!
