my camera....and photo editing

I received a few emails asking what type of camera I use......after I guest posted on Maria's blog.
Well.....this is it. A Sony Cyber-shot point-n-click camera.....yep, point...and...click. A couple years ago I wrote this post about my camera....and yes, I still use the same camera....and it still works pretty darn good for a camera under $200.00....and actually, I just went on Amazon and you can get a very similar camera for around $100.00...that's not too shabby.

So....if you want good pictures you really don't need to spend much...but you do need to practice with composition and lighting. I also don't know anything about Photoshop....but I do use a free photo editing website to help my photos.

As many of you may know....Picnik will be closing on April 19th....to say I was disappointed would be an understatement. That's what I've used for a few years now....and I love them. They were my photo editing website of choice...but don't despair....I've found a great new site to help you get your photos looking tip top....it's Picmonkey (which was started by a couple Picnik engineers)....so you know it's gonna be great. When I go in to edit my photos....the main things I use are exposure and sharpen....just to brighten them up a bit and make sure they are sharp....and that's pretty much it. The secret is to try to get the best photo you can straight from the camera so that you don't have to do a lot of editing. So, there you have it....my photo tips for the day.

If you have any questions....ask away.

  3. This week Target has a Sony Cyber Shot on sale for $99.00 (reg. $109) It says it is a 14.1 megapixal....and on the picture the lens is Sony. Those are the differences I see.
I a looking for a new point and shoot.....I may have to try this one out. Thanks for your tips. I have not done any editing and maybe it's time for me to do so to get better pictures.

  4. I have a Canon Powershot and I am learning. I have been working with Picnik lately. I'm glad to know there is something else out there. Thanks for sharing your tips. I still haven't gotten good. Will keep practicing.

  5. Thanks for the Picnik replacement tip... I'll be checking them out :)

I too use just a point and shoot (Nikon). I take tons of pics and usually don't do a lot of changes... just use them straight out of the camera. I'd love to have a "nicer" camera but at this time it's not in the budget. Thanks for reminding us all that it's not just about the fancy equipment!

  6. Hello Andrea! Thank-you, thank-you, thank-you! You just made my whole day with your tips! I too was pretty devastated when I heard about Picnik. Thanks to you, I have already tried PicMonkey and it seems to work just like Picnik! Awesome!
And your photos with your point and shoot are gorgeous! You got talent, girl!

  12. Ok, I love that you just use a point and shoot! I never would have guessed! I soo want/need a new, nicer camera, but it's just not in our budget right now, with redoing our house. So thank you for showing that beautiful photos can be created with a point and shoot ;)

  13. Wow, I'm amazed you only use a point and shoot. You're pictures always look so professional! There's also another site that i used before I got photoshop, it's called Photoscape and it's wonderful! But be weary, it sadly doesn't work for all you mac users:( But I loved it when I had my PC, and I'm sure all of you will too! Good luck and thanks for sharing:)

  14. Even though I have a fancier camera, I still like to use my little Canon point and shoot...in fact when I travel to flea markets and shops...its my camera of choice. I agree totally with you...a fancy camera is not necessary for great pics!:)

  15. Picnik will still be available via Google+, for me it is worth signing on just to still have access to Picnik.

  16. I have the same point and shoot... yet the photos that come out don't look near as nice as yours :)

  17. Thanks for the tip on PicMonkey. I didn't know how I'd do collages without Picnik and PicMonkey has a note saying Collages Coming Soon!

  18. Good to know you produced your beautiful shots with an easy camera. Thanks for the heads up on Picmonkey. I'll give editing more of an effort before I just go out and buy a new camera.

  19. Thank you, thank you, thank you for mentioning PicMonkey today. I was mourning the loss of Picnik and unhappy with Picassa. I read your post, immediately hopped on to PicMonkey, and halleluiah, I've been saved!!!

    Thank you!

  22. Hi Andrea,
first time here, via Maria'a blog, and yes your photo's are beautiful! I too had a sony point and shoot for over 2 years, loved it, but it broke so I now shoot with a Canon. I will buy another little Sony to have in my purse, it's so handy to carry around. Thanks for this post and I will happily read along! Maureen

  23. I know nothing about cameras....I just shoot pictures or vignettes for my website/online shop and they seem to work. However, all of your pictures are always beautiful and such a pleasure to look at!
You have the golden touch with whatever you do, Andrea! :)
Hope you have a wonderful weekend, my friend! xo

  26. I have visited your blog a few times before and enjoy my stay each time. I'm learning more about my camera (in my spare time) and lots of other things along the way. In the meantime I'm trying to enjoy the journey and as the old saying goes, "If you love what you do it's not work at all" and it's obvious with you. I shall return again and again.

  28. This post was inspiring to me, as I too "only" have a little Olympus fe-3010 12meg. POINT AND SHOOT camera. Since I am on a bigtime budget, I have learned to work with what I already have -- and my little camera has served me well.

I will admit to getting a little "poor me" feeling when all these other bloggers talk about their fabulous cameras -- so it's refreshing to hear your view! I also don't know anything about Photoshop. Previously, I used Picnik, and now PicMonkey - which is awesome. I try to keep my edits as simple as possible. I do re-size and watermark as well.

I'm thinking about doing a post about my camera. You have inspired me, and perhaps I can inspire others as well! Thanks so much! ~Sally

  29. Hi Andrea: I'm a new follower and I am happy to meet you. I use a point and click Canon Powershot. Everyone comments on my beautiful pictures on my blog, but I do have some trouble with low light situations, as I refuse to use the flash. I love your header. That beautiful soft purse against the rustyness of the old truck. Not to take anything away from the old truck, it's pretty beautiful too..Happy Weekend..Judy
