before stairs

So here's my next project.....a stair redo.

These are the stairs that lead to my basement....and if you read my blog, you know I do not like this carpet....it's very "office" looking....and I'm just not going for the "office" look. What am I doing you ask.....

I'm ripping the carpet off the stairs and painting them. This is something I've been wanting to do for a long time now.....and am so excited to see how it comes out. I also have a unique idea to change up the hand rail too.....but let's first see if it works out before I let you in on that little secret.

I'll be back later this week to show you a couple of my inspiration photos for this little makeover....and my progress so far. You know....ripping carpet off stairs isn't as easy as I thought....I'm so gonna need a manicure after this.

  1. Do it. I did my basement stairs and wondered what took me so long. I used porch paint and it's held up great. I would cover with a coat of satin poly though, which I plan on going back and doing...soon.

  2. Hi Andrea,
Oh wow, I can't wait to see how it turns out!! I just saw a great photo of painted stairs where someone had painted the stairs like a grain sack with blue stripes, it was awesome!
And thank you so much with your help with hanging fabric, I really appreciate it!
Hope you have a great day!
    Sincerely,
    Melinda

  6. Good luck with it, Andrea! I was soooo glad that we ripped up our carpet on the stairs. But- we found that the wood was meant to be covered with carpet, not left bare and had to replace the steps before we could paint.

It was worth every bit of work it took, and really wasnt expensive. I hope all goes well for you.

  8. Hi Andrea,

yeah I know, the ripping part of the carpet, is horrid.
    I have done it twice.
It hurts and means a lot of elbow grease, but the results oooohhh it was always so worth it.

Can't wait to see your results. Cuz I know it will be great!

    Hugs!

  11. I was going to say the exact same thing that Melinda said. They were very unique and cool. I saw them on Pinterest. I am sure though that whatever you do with be equally great.

  13. So I can hardly wait to see the redo. There are three rooms on our second floor and the steps are steep attic steps. I hate (strong word I know) the carpeting soooooooo much. I have fought back and forth with my husband for 5 years about ripping them up and painting them. So I can hardly wait to see yours, it will give me the strength to do it~
