Mudrooms

One room my farmhouse is desperately missing is a mudroom.

I dream of a mudroom that can handle laundry...flower arranging...backpacks...and of course...mud.

While other women might be dreaming of owning a diamond ring from Tiffany's....

this girl dreams of a mudroom.

  2. I couldn't agree more!

A good Minnesota girl would never live without this most important room in the house. However, since my move to Nebraska has left me without one.... I find myself wishing again about... someday! lisa

  4. I have the same dream! I make do with a glorified cupboard for a family of 6! I think we've definitely reached a certain age/stage when a mudroom can make the pulse race! xx

  6. I love a pretty mudroom, too. The ones you've shown are gorgeous, Andrea! I wish I was able to fit my washer and dryer and a nice sink into mine... darn! :)
    Happy Monday to you!

  11. The images you chose are all such lovely examples, and fit with the aesthetic of your home. I'm sure you will find a way to make this happen. I'm enjoying looking around your beautiful blog, and have decided to follow along.

  13. No diamonds for me yet! I would even be willing to pawn one for the money to add a mudroom! (um...that is if I had a whole lot of diamonds just sitting around waiting to be pawned!) Love the pictures! They're making me think about what I could do despite my lack of places for mud tracking!

  15. I am so with you on that one. My next home will be built around the mudroom! We have a small front entry with a powder room (1/2 bath),patio doors in the kitchen, but no mudroom. Totally lacking i functionality. Especially now that we have are in our first week of puppy ownership.

  16. Amen, amen, amen! We live in the city, but still could use that extra chunk of real estate to just make sense of what comes in, what must be cleaned, what must be pruned, potted, and put away. We've recently moved a small bookcase from the landing going downstairs to the basement from the kitchen (one of three doors in said tiny kitchen) and put up two long Shaker peg racks for brooms, aprons, large pots, and towels used to dry muddy paws when wet and to hang dripping coats and scarves when the bad weather arrives. We think we're brilliant!?

  17. Oh, you and me both! Just hearing the term "mud room" turns me green with envy. I do my laundry in the garage. Now, I plan sometime, in the future to spruce up the area, but it will not compare to a mud room. I want a spot to come in, kick off your boots, or heels;) hang a jacket, fold some towels, with my dog's bed in the corner. All far more valuable than a diamond I assure you. So I am with you on that one.

  18. I'd love a nice pretty mudroom. In my parents' farmhouse we have a room which is called the back kitchen. It's filled with muddy wellies, coats, horses saddles, washing, wet dogs......It's not the prettiest room in the house but certainly one of the most useful!

  20. I am right there with you Andrea. I gotta tell you that last photo of the farmhouse mudroom that Sarah Richardson did is my all time favorite. It does everything you stated and it looks good too.
Ah, we can dream, can't we?

  22. Maybe you need to add on ;) I have a mud room, but it is teeny tiny and it always feels like a mess...I would love something like the ones in your photos.

  23. ME TOO. My enclosed back porch is my mud room, laundry room, entrance everyone uses to my house, stairway to the basement... etc. I really try to keep it tidy since nobody uses our front door but it's difficult with 20 acres, 2men and 3 dogs!

  30. our farmhouse has "a back room" pretty rustic, but soon it will be our mud-room........almost there. Trim is being painted. I.can't.wait. A mudroom is as important as a kitchen! You're either in the kitchen or doing laundry a good part of your day, so a laundry/mud-room is so worth it!
