I received a call this morning at 7:00 saying my chickadees were here.
We now have enlarged our family by 27....including 25 girls....1 boy....and a mystery baby.
They're 1 day old today....This is our second time getting baby chicks....after having our other clutch for 3 years....all the farmers told us to sell them because as they get older, they don't lay nearly as many eggs as they should...so why keep them. Well....I have to tell you, after selling our clutch, hubby and I were very sad....we missed our girls....so this clutch...I'm happy to say will stay with us...and grow old with us.
Happy Birthday Girls....1 boy....and mystery baby!

Sweetness!! There is not much cuter than a baby chick!

ReplyDeleteOh, so cute - I'm losing the battle here with the family. I'm the only one who wants chickens. I keep showing them your happy emails and posts..this might do it!
ReplyDeleteAndrea, I am so jealous! I want some too. Please do more posts about chickens because I'm so curious as to how much work they are.
ReplyDeletekelley
oh my goodness, 25 girls and only one little boy, lol! love that! they are just darling, love all the different colors, do they make the cutest little sounds? I am glad you are keeping these...!
ReplyDeleteAwwww! Tara alerted me to our in-commonness. :) I have had baby chicks hatching over the past two days, and so far we're up to 15! What kind did you get? The one on the far right bottom looks like my little Marans. I just love chickens, as much as one can sanely love them. We have hens from last year (couldn't bear to part with them, as it seems all local farmers suggest to do!) They will still work for ya, just not as regularly. And when they're so sweet and gentle, you just can't help but keep the old gals around. :) Congrats on your new babies!
ReplyDeleteI want to bury my face in them. I know that sounds weird, I can't help it.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! They are a fine bunch of fuzzy sweetness... have fun!
ReplyDeleteHow sweet they are! I so wish I could have some where I live. I grew up with chickens. I was the one who went out to the henhouse to gather fresh eggs. And ran out the gate to keep the rooster from nipping me!
ReplyDeleteBrenda

Would you believe I used to work at the McMurray and that I know the family and that I used to live in their original mansion called The McMurray Mansion? Oh, yes! Webster City, IA; home of the McMurray hatchery!
ReplyDeleteYour chickens are absolutely gorgeous. Martha Stewart orders from them as well, which I'm sure you're already fully aware of.
Your site and is wonderful! I'm enjoying; newly.
