Chick Update...And A New Feathered Friend

Here's our babies.....

and they're growing up....

a little too fast....they're outgrowing the space we've given them....

which just so happens to be....our jacuzzi tub....it makes a great brooder....and seems how it's still below freezing here....it's way to cold to put them out in the chicken coop....so here they'll live....till it warms up.

And here's my new feathered friend...Otis. He's a canary....who sings up a storm. I've always had canaries....but for some reason....haven't had one for the last 4 years....which just so happens to be when my dad passed away....I thought that was long enough to be without one....because....I gotta tell you....they bring so much life to a home with their song....and being this has been an especially gloomy winter in Nebraska....I do believe a canary was
in order....and I love that he reminds me of my dad....my dad loved canaries....and now....when I hear Otis sing....which is quite often....I think of my dad....I miss you dad.

Welcome Home Otis!

  10. Dear Andrea, your chicks are so adorable. The tub was a great idea for the winter, easy to clean too! I remember meeting a woman who had a room full of canaries-she taught us to weave baskets with canary song and brownies. I miss my Dad too-what a lovely way to be reminded of him.
    Enjoy...Sherry

  13. In Missouri, where I am from, we grew up with cockatoo's and finches. I loved the sound and energy they have. I should consider one for a pet for our kids in Maryland. YOurs is a great way to honor your dad.

  17. Love the bird cage! Hummingbirds remind me of my mom so I have feeders out all year. That's probably about as close as I'll get to ever having a bird:)

  25. This spring, I inherited an all white Parakeet, Lola. She doesn't sing like a Canary, but she chirps contstantly. She in my sunroom which is off my kitchen and is surrounded but windows that overlook our back property. There are plenty of birds to keep her company when I have the windows open and she just loves it! I love the constant background noise. It's actually very relaxing!
